Ten Texans have been appointed to serve on state water authority boards.
Nueces River Authority
Gov. Greg Abbott has appointed three new members and reappointed two members to the Nueces River Authority for terms set to expire on Feb. 1, 2031. Additionally, one member was appointed for a term set to expire on Feb. 1, 2027. The Authority administers the control, employment and conservation of the waters of the Nueces River Basin.
Olen “Feller” Hughs of Barksdale is a former president of Consolidated Beef Producers and former board member of Texas Cattle Feeders Association. Hughs received a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Texas Tech University.
Daniel “Danny” Kelley of Karnes City retired after 30 years as an engineer. He is active with the Karnes City Knights of Columbus and volunteers with Meals on Wheels. Kelley holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University.
Daniel Suckley of Corpus Christi serves as a senior lender and team leader at American Bank, N.A. He is a board member for the Robert and Janis Birchall Foundation. Suckley earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from TAMU-Corpus Christi.
Jane Bell of Corpus Christi was reappointed to the board. Bell formerly served as area director for the American Diabetes Association. She serves on multiple boards including the Corpus Christi Education Foundation and the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra. Bell holds a Bachelor of Journalism from The University of Texas at Austin.
Lisa Greenberg of Corpus Christi was also reappointed. Greenberg practices at the Law Office of Lisa Greenberg. She serves as board chair for the Nueces County Public Defender’s Office and holds leadership positions in legal associations. Greenberg earned degrees from Texas Tech University, including a Juris Doctor.
Shannon Freund of Beeville works as a customer development manager at Advantage Solutions. She serves on the Beeville Education Foundation board and is a graduate of Leadership Bee County. Freund holds a Bachelor of Arts from TAMU-Corpus Christi. Her term is set to expire Feb. 1, 2027.
Red River Authority of Texas
Three members were reappointed to the Red River Authority of Texas Board of Directors with terms expiring Aug. 11, 2029.
Jerry Dan Davis of Wellington owns and operates farming and ranching operations across three counties. He serves on multiple agricultural boards including the Panhandle Peanut Growers Board. Davis holds a bachelor’s degree in general agriculture from West Texas A&M University.
Mike Sandefur of New Boston serves as CEO of three land and farming companies. He previously served as president of the Texarkana College Board of Trustees. Sandefur earned three degrees from Rice University, including a master’s degree in business and public management.
Joe L. Ward of Telephone operates a cow-calf operation and previously served on the State Soil and Water Conservation Board. He is a founding board member of the Fannin County Multi-Purpose Complex. Ward holds a business degree from Baylor University and served in both the Army and Air National Guard.
Upper Neches River Municipal Water Authority
Alan Herrington of Palestine was selected to serve on the Upper Neches River Municipal Water Authority Board of Directors until Feb. 1, 2029. Herrington recently concluded a 34-year finance career and holds fellowships in the Society of Actuaries. He earned degrees in actuarial science from The University of Texas at Austin and the University of Michigan.
