The Iowa Board of Regents recently authorized the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) to build a $14 million court practice facility. Currently in the design phase, construction is expected to begin in late 2025.
The McLeod Center, which currently serves as the practice facility, does not have adequate space to accommodate all university programs. The UNI men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams face continuous scheduling conflicts due to shared space with each other and the wrestling performance venue.
The university will build a 27,000-square-foot court practice facility. The building will have two floors, providing state-of-the-art training amenities for basketball and volleyball programs on the first floor and mechanical space on the second.
The facility’s designs feature two National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) compliant basketball courts and four NCAA volleyball courts. Student-athletes will also benefit from strength and conditioning spaces, a small training room, changing rooms and three storage spaces.
The new building will be built adjacent to the McLeod Center. The university will create direct connections between the two buildings, the UNI-Dome and the Wellness Recreation Center.
