The University of Alabama (UA) received approval from the UA System Board of Trustees to spend $12.8 million building an ROTC Facility and Student Veterans Center. The project is in the design phase with bidding split into two building packages. Bidding for Package A will open in spring 2025, and Package B will open in August 2025. The construction date has not yet been set.
Construction included in the first package is limited, prioritizing site work, grading and necessary utility adjustments and installation. The work accomplished will pave the way for future work in the subsequent package.
Package B encompasses the bulk of the project, resulting in a one-story building covering more than 19,000 square feet. The training facility will include a 35-foot rappelling tower adjacent to the structure. The university will also build a dirt path challenge and obstacle course on an existing 26-acre plot.
Additional building spaces will include multipurpose and locker rooms. These spaces will ensure adequate, modern training tools and capacities such as indoor shooting simulators, simulated artillery, leadership reaction courses and virtual-reality flight simulators.
UA will build an adjacent commuter parking lot connecting directly to the facility. Additional work will include landscaping, light pole and equipment installation, security and access controls and installation of telecommunications technology.
