Texas city, school district plan $35 million investments in construction, renovations

April 4, 2025

The city of Hutchins received approval to invest $28 million into building a state-of-the-art recreation center and library. In addition, the Miles Independent School District (MISD) will spend $7 million to make a series of improvements and renovations to campus facilities.

The recreation and library facility will cover 37,250 square feet, featuring gymnasiums, transformation places for wellness programs, fitness studios and multipurpose rooms. Additional amenities include adult and youth basketball courts, cardio and weight equipment and training areas.

The library will span 6,000 square feet, providing space for books, technology hubs and children’s spaces. Teen gaming areas are also included in the facility’s design, as well as an indoor walking trail.

MISD will prioritize renovations to its junior high and high school campuses, primarily to increase cafeteria size. The updated cafeteria space will include improved safety and security measures, new HVAC units, LED lighting and insulation. The district will install fire-suppression systems, alarms and emergency exits.

To accommodate increased enrollment, plans include expanding and reconfiguring classrooms, common areas and restrooms. Additional spaces will be created for academic programs, special education and extracurricular offerings.

The district will build a new physical education gym, providing accessible locker rooms, restrooms and adaptable spaces. The gym will feature energy-efficient lighting and HVAC systems.
