TAMU solicits designer for $28.3 million athletic player development center

February 24, 2025

Texas A&M University (TAMU) is seeking an architect to design a $28.3 million player development center at Blue Bell Park. Construction is anticipated to begin in December 2025.

The project will enhance the university’s baseball stadium with new player development facilities, providing better support and amenities for athletic training. The current building has been in use since the 1980s and was last renovated 13 years ago.

The university will start the project by demolishing the existing batting cage facility to make room for development. The new facility will feature a home clubhouse with locker rooms, restrooms and showers for players. Plans include building a player lounge, installing ventilation, using high-impact materials and installing state-of-the-art technology to customize player areas and improve security.

Space will be dedicated to strength and conditioning, including a weight room, open floor workspace, a nutrition nook and a head strength and conditioning office. The sports medicine area will include a training space, sports science facilities and a hydration testing area. A team meeting area will include a classroom and nutrition kitchen.

TAMU will build new batting cages with dedicated storage and a pitching lab. The building will also feature dedicated lockers, restrooms and showers for coaches, support staff, female support staff and umpires and student managers. The layout will also include rooms for laundry, folding and mending, equipment storage and ice and cooler storage.

As part of the field reconstruction, the university will replace the baseball field and field irrigation. The updated space will feature a natural playing surface for both the infield and outfield, a synthetic turf foul zone and warning track with crushed aggregate. Updated LED field lighting and poles will also be installed.
