Steven Snell has been chosen as Williamson County’s next judge. County commissioners approved his appointment on March 27 in a three-to-one vote.

He will succeed Bill Gravell, who vacated his role as county judge on March 10 to accept a position with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Gravell will represent and advocate for more than 4.5 million small businesses across Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.

Snell has a long history in the education sector, currently serving as superintendent of the Liberty Hill Independent School District (ISD). He has been in that position for the past six years. Before leading Liberty Hill ISD, Snell was superintendent for Spring Hill ISD and assistant superintendent for Hutto ISD. He also served as principal of Brazoswood High School for five years.

He is an active member of his community, holding positions on several boards and councils such as the Liberty Hill Economic Development Council Board and Liberty Hill ISD Education Foundation.

Snell was selected from among four finalists competing for the county judge seat. He will serve until the next general election on Nov. 3, 2026.
