On March 27, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) Board of Commissioners authorized a $160 million project to enhance the Q70 LaGuardia (LGA) Link bus line. With its approval, the authority’s next move will be to procure a construction contract. Once completed, the expanded airport-to-subway line will provide faster, more reliable service between multiple neighborhoods and railroad lines. To support this initiative, the project calls for building a new bus staging area at LGA. The Terminal C Loop roadway will also be improved to facilitate better travel conditions.
The Q70 bus service upgrades will entail:
- Adding transit signal priority for buses along the route.
- Installing wayfinding, lighting and signage upgrades at stations.
- Installing “bus wraps” on Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) buses.
Improvements to the Terminal C Loop will include:
- Building a covered canopy on-airport for staging on-airport buses.
- Developing a dedicated on-airport bus lane.
- Installing new on-airport wayfinding, lighting and traffic signals.
- Creating a pedestrian walkway.
- Relocating the existing taxi staging area to a location adjacent to Terminal B.
Starting June 1, riders will benefit from increased frequencies during peak periods, typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Exclusive road access points will improve service reliability and avoid congestion.
