The Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD) Board of Trustees has selected Dr. Karen Molinar as the lone finalist for superintendent.
Dr. Molinar was unanimously voted into the role Feb. 18, 2025. She has been operating as the district’s interim superintendent since Oct. 8, 2024. There will be a 21-day waiting period in accordance with Texas law before her appointment is officially confirmed.
Dr. Molinar has been a key leader with FWISD for the past decade. She started as assistant superintendent in 2015, later transitioning to chief of elementary leadership, chief of staff and deputy superintendent. In the latter position, she oversaw the operations of several divisions, including:
- Budget and finance.
- Talent management.
- Safety and security.
- Assessment data and quality.
- Strategic initiatives.
- Legal services.
- Professional standards and employee services.
She graduated from Texas Wesleyan University with a Doctorate in Education. Dr. Molinar also earned a Master of Education Administration from Tarleton State University, a Bachelor of Science from Salisbury State University and an Associate Degree of Early Childhood Education from Delaware Technical and Community College.
In addition to her extensive educational background, Dr. Molinar also serves as a member of numerous boards and councils. These include the Texas Urban Council, Council of Great City Schools, the Texas Association of School Boards, the Texas Association of School Administrators and the Association of Texas Professional Educators.
The final action on Dr. Molinar’s appointment is anticipated March 11, 2025.
