On Feb. 7, Gov. Greg Abbott announced that Walter “Frank” Coppersmith, III and Keith Halman would retain their positions with the Board of the Department of Information Resources (DIR). Both were reappointed with terms ending Feb. 1, 2031. DIR is responsible for coordinating, monitoring and directing information resources management within the Texas state government.

Coppersmith brings extensive legal and business experience to the role. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Maryland Bar Association and the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce. He is also the former president of the International Game Developers Association for the Austin Chapter, as well as former vice president of the Association of Corporate Counsel in Austin.

Coppersmith currently works as the CEO of a custom application development company and is a member of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization and Bunker Labs’ CEO Circle. He earned a Juris Doctor from Samford University Cumberland School of Law, a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from The Citadel.

Halman holds a position as associate vice chancellor and CIO of the Texas Tech University System. Prior to latest role, he served for more than 15 years at The University of Texas at Arlington in multiple capacities, including executive director of business technology services, director, assistant director and manager of enterprise information systems.

On top of his current position with the system, Halman is on the board of the Lonestar Education and Research Network. He has a Master of Science in Business Administration in Management Information Systems and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Information Systems from Texas Tech University.
