Officials at Williamson County, Cedar Park and Leander are considering the possibility of adding toll lanes to Ronald Reagan Boulevard, a major arterial roadway on the county’s west side.
The discussions are based on a potential partnership with the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA) to continue its plans for the boulevard from Cedar Park to Jarrell.
The CTRMA plans call for improvements to a 31-mile stretch, divided into five segments (A -E). The county’s focus, however, would be only on Segment A of Ronald Reagan Boulevard from Market Road 2243 to State Highway 29. The county’s current plan would be to add four to eight lanes but only on Segment A, at an estimated cost of $532 million.
Officials agree that the roadway project is needed, but according to one official, the funding is not available at this time. Toll lanes would help to pay for the improvements. Leander City Council took no action on the study and plans to revisit the subject later. Cedar Park’s city council approved the study in a 6-1 vote.
